Three part series exploring the history of African American music. Topics include tracing the history of African music and sound to modern day musical genres such as blues, jazz, and rap. It can be shared as an entire series or separately to suit each client's needs.
Afrofuturism in the Arts
An examination of the Afrofuturism genre and the role that performing arts, visual arts, media arts, and literature play in the liberation of those in the African diaspora. Notable figures and themes will be explored.
Rap As Storytelling
An evolution of African oral traditions which led to the creation of the African American genre of rap and the widely embraced culture of hip hop. Musical artists and listening samples will be examined across several decades. This discussion can be tailored to fit your school or organization.
Juneteenth to Justice
An introduction to the Juneteenth holiday of African Americans to wider audiences. The origin and cultural traditions of Juneteenth will be contrasted with Independence Day as celebrated in the United States. Available for all demographics and can be adapted for each audience.
